I had a doghouse custom-made for my 3 dogs, thinking they'd like to huddle together if it's cold b
They don't seem to ever use it! The doghouse is in case the weather turns nasty and I'm not home to let them inside. Typically, all 3 sleep on my bed with me (though the oldest, a female, will sometimes get off the bed to go to her private doggie bed). I had the dog house made big enough so all 3 can get inside at the same time. I've tried putting a favorite blanket inside. (They just pulled it out and dragged it around the yard.) I've put food and treats in the house. (They just go in long enough to get the food and then get out.). Should I just trust that they'll use it if they need it?
ROTFLMAO! OMG, BYB's: Team Caius, ever get out much? But don't sweat it, the dogs are FINE even if I hadn't gotten them a doghouse. I'm in the desert in New Mexico not in Siberia; we rarely even get a sprinkling of snow and barely get any rain

Yes! Sometimes dogs just want the simplest things (like chewing on cardboard or plastic instead of the expensive toys we buy for them!).
I'd leave it there and let them use it for whenever they may want it. They probably know it's theirs. Maybe they don't want to share. Maybe they'll use it if they ever want "protection" from people, other animals, a snow/rain storm, etc.

Here's an idea, why not care for your dogs and bring them inside? Dogs shouldn't be left outside to rot and shouldn't be left outside if you can't supervise them. What's the point of owning a dog?
Let me guess "Some people have to work during the day", right? Then you bring the dogs inside and you hire someone to come in and walk them while you are at work.
No, you can't trust that they will use it if they need it. That's why you, as their owner, need to make sure that they are safe and inside should the weather turn nasty.
Added: "Dogs are dogs" Wow, what a convincing argument.
REAL adults ensure that they can offer the time that any given dog needs, whether thats through doggie daycare, dog walkers, coming home during lunch, or hiring someone.
REAL adults don't get a pet (much less 3 of them) to leave it outside all day as a lawn ornament.
If I left my dog outside all day, in ANY kind of weather, the rescue group she came from would be at my house to take her back and place her in a REAL home.
Dogs are dogs. And coyotes are coyotes and they attack dogs. And people are people and they steal, abuse, and poison dogs. Brains are brains and some people have more than others.

Um, BYB's: Team Caius? Real adults have full time jobs. Dogs are dogs, they are FINE outside for the day.
Doesn't sound to me like this person's dogs are outside, rotting away.
@ OP Quite frankly, I don't see them using it. But you aren't home during the day to watch them. I think it is nice to have, and maybe if it rains or something they will go inside. But I would bet that they would sit at the back door before they would go inside the dog house.

I had the same exact problem with my dog. I put some prairie hay inside for bedding. (after she destroyed a $40 dog bed) Now she loves it in there.
If you don't have access to hay you might try cedar chips or something like that.

lol that's just typical of dogs. Make them a nice house and they don't use it.
If they need to use it, they will. Try not to worry
lol private doggy bed, dragged blankets.. very normal, happens here all the time.
Can we see a pic please?

A better idea is to keep your dogs inside and hire a dog sitter or dog walker for when you're gone. Doghouses are good for when you're home and you're letting your dog outside, because they like to venture here-and-there. If you're going to be gone while at work, you need to hire someone to take care of them and make sure they're in the house.
Only your dogs are a long haired large breed of dog I wouldn't be to freaked out about it. Long haired big breeds love the snow and or cold! I'm not mad at you, just giving my advise! I'm just going by my dogs-they can't last more than an hour outside without shivering: short haired breed.

YES trust them! and to the post above this one ^^^^^^ myself and everyone that i know who own a dog lets them outside for most of the day!!!!! dogs are not babies! dogs are meant to be outside rolling in the snow and mud and dirt!! they are NOT meant for being in the house all day and only going out 3 times a day to relieve themselves and walk. dogs were not made for that, the first dogs didnt have that so you know that they werent made for inside all the time! they want to be outside running where they want to in your yard not walking in a straight line not being able to explore!! any ways you should just trust that if your dogs need it they will use it! :)
